The Central Oklahoma women’s basketball team returns from its holiday break to battle with Washburn University on Thursday, Jan. 4, in an effort to break a four-game losing streak.

Head coach Emma Andrews and the Bronchos have been off since Dec. 19 when they suffered a 84-66 loss at the hands of Fort Hays State. The team holds a 2-10 record through 12 games and have dropped their last four matches, their last win coming against Lincoln University on Dec. 2.

The Bronchos now travel to Topeka for the first game of a two-game road trip in Kansas. Thursday’s matchup is the first of two scheduled games against Washburn this season.

UCO is led by junior guard Karly Wadsworth, the team’s leading scorer thus far at 10.8 points per game. She also leads the team in steals at two a game and is third on the team in three-point shooting with a rate of 34.2%.

Besides Wadsworth, the Bronchos have no other players averaging double digits points. UCO ranks twelfth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate (MIAA) conference in scoring offense with 65.4 points per game.

Washburn comes into the matchup at 8-3 overall (3-2 in conference play) as the No. 8 team in the MIAA conference standings. They’re also the No. 4-scoring team in the conference, which doesn’t favor UCO’s second-to-last-ranked scoring defense.

Sophomore center Yiibari Nwidadah leads the Ichabods in scoring after 11 games with 14.0 points per game, with Aubree Dewey just behind her at 13.9 points. Nwidadah is also just shy of averaging a double-double with 9.9 rebounds per game.

The Bronchos look to end their losing streak and pick up win No. 3 when the two teams tip off in Topeka on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 P.M.
