Saints move to 2-1 with home win as McIntyre and Voskuhl each score 19

The Oklahoma Christian School girls’ basketball team picked up its second home victory of the young 2023-2024 season by defeating Heritage Hall on Tuesday, 52-44, in this week’s Game of the Week The Saints gutted out the eight-point win thanks to standout performances by junior Ava McIntyre and sophomore Ella Voskuhl, who each scored 19 points to lead both teams.

Tuesday’s contest started out slow for both sides as neither team could seem to get a shot to go in early on. The first quarter ended with OCS trailing 6-3 before a flurry of baskets were put in just before the halftime break.

The first half ended with the score deadlocked at 16-16. It wasn’t until the second half that both teams started to fall into a rhythm and the buckets began to fall. The latter half was a story of runs, as one team would go on perfect stretch to extend their lead but was subsequently countered by a run from the opponent.

OCS went ahead 2617 in the third quarter, but Heritage Hall came storming back to take a 39-35 lead in the fourth, which was then countered by a 12-0 Saints’ run of their own. The metaphorical ping pong match was settled by OCS as they finished the game on a 13-7 run to pull out the home victory over the resilient Chargers.

McIntyre was one rebound shy of a double-double, putting up 19 points and nine boards in one of her best games of the season. Voskuhl recorded 19 points and a pair of assists and sophomore Blair Rowlett added 10 points with three rebounds.

OCS improves to 2-1 through three games with both wins coming at home. The Saints were the victors in an impressive 82-18 rout over Oklahoma Christian Academy in the team’s season opener. They’ll play next in the Dale High Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 7, starting with a matchup against Kiefer at 1 P.M.
