OCA’s Avery Haddock wins 2A state title, Edmond schools play for girls golf championships

Local girls’ teams cap off golf season with state tournaments

The 2024 OSSAA state golf tournaments took place Monday, April 29, through Tuesday, April 30, and a couple of Edmond varsity girls’ teams ended the season by bringing home some hardware.

 

Oklahoma Christian Academy’s Avery Haddock shot a tournament-best 150 through two rounds to become the Class 2A state champion by a four-stroke margin. The senior pulled off the best individual round of the tournament, shooting a 73 on opening day to jump out to an early lead. She ended round two with a 77 to clinch the title.

 

OCA traveled to Weatherford’s Prairie West Golf Course to compete in the 2A tournament. The Eagles placed eighth in the final team standings with a score of 884 after two rounds. Senior Gracie Graham finished 16th overall with 198 points and freshman Ava Watterson ended at No. 66.

 

The team state title was won by Turner High School, who won by a margin of 154 strokes.

 

Moving to the Class 6A state tournament, Edmond North finished third overall to lead all local schools at the Stillwater Country Club. Edmond Memorial came in fifth place with senior Meredith Colby finishing seventh individually at 154.

 

The Huskies’ girls ended the two-day tournament with a team score of 641 while putting together the fourth-best individual round of the tourney. Senior Rylee Roberts was the team’s highest finisher at 11th, with Erika Bryton-Burkhalter just behind at T-13th and Cara Cummins coming in at 17th.

 

Stillwater captured the 6A state title with a final score of 615.

 

OCS girls’ golf competed at the Class 3A state tournament at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, finishing sixth place as a team at 733 points. Saints’ senior Katie Eisenhauer shot a 161 through two rounds for a seventh-place individual finish, with sophomore McCall Smith coming in at 17th.

 

The 3A championship was won by Sequoyah Tahlequah after they defeated second-place Holland Hall by a 21-stroke margin.
