Logan Collyer caught the pass and let fly a high-arching shot that earned her a win and family bragging rights.

The senior’s late 3-point shot gave Cameron a 70-67 win against the Oklahoma Christian women’s basketball team at Payne Athletics Center on Thursday night.

Collyer’s game-winning shot came at her cousin’s expense. Maddison Collyer Ingraham is a senior guard for OC. Ingraham outscored her cousin 10-9, but Collyer earned the victory.

OC (1-2) had not played since opening weekend due to various cancelations. The Lady Eagles were also shorthanded in their home opener due to multiple injuries and dressed eight players.

Cameron (3-1) hit 14 3-pointers against OC’s zone defense. The Eagles scored from behind the arc twice.

Collyer said she and Ingraham enjoy playing against each another.

“We have a family rivalry,” Collyer said. “She played a great game, and I give her all the credit. She’s a great player, and that win was just bittersweet. It’s both of our senior year. We just like to be athletic and compete against each other, and we loved it.”

The Lady Eagles led most of the game, including the entire second quarter and almost all the third. Junior guard Maighan Hedge hit a 3-pointer just before the buzzer sounded to end the third, giving the Aggies a 53-52 lead, their first since the first quarter.

Sophomore forward Emma Epperly gave the Lady Eagles the lead back momentarily to begin the fourth, but Collyer took it back shortly after. OC never led again.

Senior guard Tyra Peck hit a game-tying shot with 19.4 seconds to play before Collyer hit the winner on the other end.

OC coach Stephanie Findley said the biggest contributing factor to the loss was the number of open 3-pointers the Aggies had.

“They’re a good shooting team, but when you run zone (defense), that’s going to happen,” Findley said. “We’re trying to run zone because we really only have seven healthy people, and we’re trying to stay out of foul trouble by running zone. So, you’re going to give up some threes, but I thought we gave up too many open looks where we didn’t get a hand up.”

OC’s loss came despite Kendall Blackburn’s best game as an Eagle. The junior center from Deer Creek recorded a double-double with career highs in points, 18, and rebounds, 11. Freshman guard Katie King led Cameron with 20 points.

Blackburn said she thought she played well.

“I fed off the girls’ energy, and when we get on a run, it helps me get on a run,” Blackburn said. “I think we all did good, but we can improve a lot.”

The Aggies and Lady Eagles will face off again Saturday in Lawton.
