Edmond high school tennis teams competed at the Broken Arrow Tiger Classic earlier this week with one local varsity squad walking away with a first-place finish.

The Edmond North Huskies’ boys took home the tournament victory on Tuesday, April 9, after winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles brackets at Broken Arrow High School. Wyatt Hague and Cortez Mora defeated duos from Enid and Edmond Memorial to win the crown in the first doubles, and Caleb Seba paired with Ben Turvey to secure the No. 2 Doubles, beating hosts Broken Arrow in the finals.

Austin Ulish also placed third in the Boys No. 1 Singles tourney for Edmond North.

In addition to Tuesday’s victory, the Huskies had also won the Bixby Tournament earlier that day and the Ada Tournament on April 6, making three tourney wins for the team in the last week.

Edmond Memorial secured the win in the Boys No. 2 Singles thanks to Luke Ogilbee, who defeated Union’s Jackson Heare in the final by a score of 3,2. Memorial also finished as runners-up in both the Boys No. 1 Singles and No. 1 Doubles to give the team a top three finish.

Elsewhere in Edmond, the Oklahoma Christian School girls’ tennis team placed third overall at Monday’s Guthrie Tournament. Audrey Cooks won first place in the No. 1 Singles bracket and Nikelle Horsburgh came in third in the No. 2 Singles. Both of the Saints’ doubles teams placed ninth.

The OCS boys were scheduled to play at Guthrie on Wednesday, but their matches were canceled due to rainy weather.

Edmond North and Edmond Memorial’s boys’ and girls’ squads will now prepare for the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference (COAC) Tournament this Saturday, April 13, at the OKC Tennis Center. They will be joined by fellow local teams Edmond Santa Fe and Deer Creek for a chance to play for conference supremacy.

As for OCS, both Saints’ teams will play matches versus Bishop McGuinness at the OKC Tennis Center on Wednesday, April 17.
