High school athletes across Edmond committed to playing collegiate sports by participating in National Signing Day 2021 Wednesday.

Oklahoma Christian School, coming off a 2A semifinal run, had six athletes sign letters, including two for football.

Lineman Matthew Robbins signed with Army. Robbins said he has wanted to go to West Point since he was little because his father graduated from there in 1996.

“I didn’t really want a traditional college experience, so it’s a perfect fit for me,” Robbins said. “I’m looking forward to it, because I want to serve my country.”

Attending West Point will mean a five-year commitment to serve in the U.S. Army after graduation. Robbins said he is thinking about serving as an artillery officer and may decide to continue serving after his initial commitment.

Quarterback Denver Wilson signed with Cornell College. Wilson came to OCS last summer after attending Casady his first three years. He said he believes OCS prepared him well for college football.

“Playing in OSSAA and playing 2A football, being able to pay in those hard games in the playoffs, that definitely prepared me a lot for college football,” Wilson said. “Just playing under pressure. And the coaches, they taught me so much this year that I can’t even express the amount they taught me.”

Outside of football, Ashton Major signed to play volleyball at Wheaton College, Meg Brady signed for women’s basketball at Southwestern Assemblies of God and Cory McIntire signed for cross country at Oklahoma Baptist. Ryan Stout will be signing soon for baseball at Seminole State.

Athletic director Brandon Weaver said it is fantastic to be able to send students to college athletics in several sports.

“We have a lot of great programs here,” Weaver said. “The other thing is, these kids are prepared for the academic side of the school, and I just can’t wait to see what they do at the next level.”

Edmond Santa Fe, fresh off a trip to the 6A-I football state championship game, had six students sign national letters of intent for football.

Running back Ethan Hyche and defensive back Gavin Duverger chose to remain in Oklahoma. Hyche signed with Southwestern Oklahoma State, while Duverger signed with Northeastern State.

Hyche said he appreciated how SWOSU’s staff spent time with him one-on-one during his visits as opposed to being part of a big group at other schools.

“It’s the way I felt treated there,” Hyche said. “They showed me around more. It was really looking at me as a person, not as a number.”

Duverger said he chose NSU over Central Oklahoma so he could stay in Oklahoma but be far enough away from home to get a more of a college experience.

“They showed me a home there,” Duverger said. “They showed me I can be a big impact out the gate, and that’s really what I want to do.”

Defensive back Angelo Rankin signed with Richmond and linebacker James Burnett signed as a preferred walk on with Eastern Michigan. Running back Micah Snoddy and linebacker Blake Montgomery both signed with Sterling College.

Coach Kyle White said Santa Fe is spoiled to have so many talented players.

“Kids do a great job of putting a good product on the field,” White said. “They’re talented, they do things right… It’s fun to see it all come to fruition and see them all over the country.”

Edmond North did not hold any ceremonies, but the Huskies saw five athletes sign letters, two for football.

Kicker Campbell Ambrose signed with Southwestern Oklahoma State and Jeffrey Moore signed with Missouri Valley College.

Two Lady Huskies soccer players also signed. Aleigha Prince signed with the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and Hannah Bourbonnais signed with East Texas Baptist.

Finally, Gabriel Mullaney signed with Virginia Military Institute for lacrosse.

Edmond Memorial had five athletes sign. Linebacker Ian MacDonald signed with Dordt, while defensive lineman Devon Polley signed with Concordia.

In addition to the two football players, three soccer players will also be continuing their careers. Olivia Vigil will play for UCO. Caden Ball signed with Oklahoma City, and Mason Thornhill signed with Oklahoma Christian.

Finally, Deer Creek defensive lineman Minke Compton signed with St. Mary in Kansas.
