The senior stepped to the plate and smashed the ball deep into right field as two of his teammates rushed home.

Bryce Logan’s third-inning triple was part of an offensive onslaught Monday night as the Deer Creek baseball team run-ruled Edmond North 13-2 in five innings at Deer Creek.

Deer Creek (20-2 overall, 7-0 District 6A-1) scored in every inning to rout the Huskies.

North (11-7, 4-3) plated two runs in the third but could do little more.

Deer Creek coach Roland Baza said he felt good about his team’s performance.

“I felt our guys’ approach was where they needed to be today,” Baza said. “Looked for good pitches to hit and were able to take advantage when they got them.”

Logan and junior Duncan Key each had 3 RBIs for Deer Creek. Key and senior Ty Hammock each contributed 2-run home runs.

For North, senior Brendon Carter and junior Hank Heiselbetz had the Huskies’ two RBIs.

Senior Jack Hill pitched all five innings for Deer Creek. He struck out five and walked one. North recorded five hits against him.

Logan said the Antlers had confidence in Hill’s pitching, so they came to the plate with an aggressive mindset.

“I think we got a great team this year,” Logan said. “Everything’s clicking. We’re just playing well together and playing hard. It’s looking really good.”

Deer Creek led 1-0 after the first but blew the game open in the second with a 6-run inning. The Antlers starting the scoring in the inning on a wild pitch, followed by a successful double steal. Logan hit an RBI double, and Hill hit an RBI single before Key’s 2-run bomb.

The Antlers scored three in each of the next two innings.

Both teams will need to reset after a lopsided affair as they will face off again Tuesday night at North. Raza said despite this result, the Antlers will approach the second game like a playoff game they way they do every district opponent.

“We’re going to have our guy on the mound tomorrow that we’re going to have a lot of trust behind,” Raza said. “Continue just to play our game and have good at bats and score runs and play good defense behind it.”
