The senior’s teammates rushed to celebrate with him after scoring the tap-in goal.

Aaron Creech’s first-half goal was part of an onslaught Tuesday night in Edmond as the Oklahoma Christian School boys’ soccer team defeated Cordell 9-0.

Cordell (0-7 overall, 0-3 District 3A-1) came into the game shorthanded with only nine players participating.

OCS (5-3, 1-0) celebrated senior night with every senior scoring.

OCS coach John Crowell said they were hoping to get as many seniors as possible to score.

“That was kind of something I had talked about with our captains,” Crowell said. “If we had the opportunity, to try to let our seniors play enough to where they’d have an opportunity to score.”

Creech’s goal was the first of his career. That goal drew the largest cheer from the crowd as his teammates mobbed him.
Senior Aiden Velez said it was cool to see.

“He’s awesome,” Velez said. “He’s our seed guy. He buys $50 worth of seeds every season and brings them. He’s always cheering on us, so it’s amazing to see that he got to score.”

The Saints started fast, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes. Every senior scored in the first half. Matthew Shell opened the scoring in the third minute. Henry Creed, a sophomore, scored the second. From there, seniors Jack Gilbow, Velez, Peyton McIntire, Creech and Travis Brown rounded out the first half scoring.

The second half was far more subdued, though OCS kept the pressure on all night. Juniors Will Watson and Luke Melton scored in the second.

OCS began the game with the normal squad of 11 players against Cordell’s nine, but Crowell said once it got out of hand, the Saints took themselves down to nine.

“(It was) still a district game,” Crowell said. “We weren’t out here to embarrass them. We wanted to still have a good competition and still get better, but also at the same time, do it in a classy manner. Hopefully, we did that.”

Nine goals set a new season high for OCS. The Saints previously scored seven against Alva, who also happens to be their next opponent.
