Mark “Adam” Ison of Edmond, Oklahoma, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday November 25, 2020. He was born on February 28, 1979, at Reynolds Army Hospital, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma,to Mark Allen and Janette Marie (Cobb) Ison. Adam was 41 years of age.
He attended Pioneer Park and Sullivan Village Elementary while living in Lawton. The family moved to Edmond where he attended Summit Middle School and was a graduate of Edmond Santa Fe High School, class of 1998. During his teen years, he watched the nightly news keeping up with sports and a popular TV show called MTV’s Road Rules. He sent in his tape to the show hoping to be chosen for the next season and successfully made it to the top 100 nationwide.
Adam loved sports. At the age of fourteen, he decided to apply for a job at the OKC Baseball Club. He filled out his application and wrote a cover letter stating why he wanted to work for the OKC ‘89ers. To our amazement he was picked out of many applicants to be part of the ‘89ers organization. He worked for the OKC Baseball Club for many seasons as batboy and clubhouse attendant. Adam thoroughly enjoyed retrieving thrown bats during the games, chasing balls during practices, and running errands to and from the clubhouse for the players. Adam managed to also get Christopher, his younger brother, a job. We loved seeing them on the nightly news during the sports broadcast hi-light reels. Later he worked with the Oklahoma City RedHawks after they moved to the new ballpark in Bricktown. Moving on up the ladder, Adam was hired by the Tulsa Drillers Ball Club to be their Club House Manager. He absolutely loved baseball and was an avid collector of memorabilia.
He then worked at Sam’s Club where he enjoyed meeting new people. His favorite customer was Garth Brooks’ mother. She always found him to be a delight and waited, no matter how long, to check out with Adam.
He attended Rose State College and American Broadcasting School. After graduating Adam went into business for himself as a Disc Jockey. He supplied great fun for many with his DJ abilities at weddings, birthdays and anniversaries.
An opportunity to work for Locke Electrical Supply in Edmond came in 2002. He was extremely well-liked as a dependable, pleasant employee. He ran the Edmond store then was promoted to manager of the StillwaterLocke Supply Store in 2015. He worked there for three years, commuting six days a week from Edmond. He was complimented by his former managers for the amazing job he did.
Adam was known as a happy-go-lucky, smiley, funny practical joker who enjoyed spreading fun and happiness through magic, card tricks and juggling. He enjoyed pulling practical jokes on people, something he learned from his grandpa known as “The Popie” He had an unforgettable “hehe” laugh and was known for his big teddy bear stature, warm heart, and the ability to talk anyone into doing anything. He constantly embarrassed his sister, Amberlea, by attempting to set her up on a date with random guys in cars next to them.
He was full of knowledge and loved learning new things. If he didn’t know it, he researched to learn about it... he was the king of Google and YouTube. Adam shared the love of Halloween with his sister. He enjoyed coming up with new costumes, spooky ideas for Halloween decorating, and enjoyed watching everything scary he could find.
Adam cared deeply for the homeless community and supported them in any way he could. He enjoyed giving back and had a collection of crosses that he purchased from different people who were down on their luck. He was also well-loved in the electrical community and by his high school classmates. He will be dearly missed so passionately by many friends and family.
We will miss his squinty little eyes when he smiled, his big heart, and his fun-loving disposition. Adam was known as “Adam Boy” by his God mother, “Mr. Baseball” and “my baseball buddy” by friends, son, brother, uncle, cousin and most importantly Daddy and as “Friend” to all who met him. The family and friends he left behind are grateful to have had him in their lives, as short as it was, and all have their own special memories of him as he made everyone laugh and feel loved.
Adam was preceded in death by his Godmother, Peggy Sue Mackey; his paternal grandparents Cecil Calvin and Pearl Evelyn (Jarvis) Ison; his maternal grandparents Buster Troy and Bertha Josephine (Guthery) Cobb.
He leaves behind the light of his life, 8 year old daughter Kensi Marie Ison who is his spitting image in looks and personality. He positively adored her with every part of his being and often said she was the best thing he ever did. We are very thankful that he will live on in her little face and in her heart.
He is also survived by his parents Mark and Janette (Cobb) Ison; his sister Amberlea (Ison) Cardwell and her fiancé Geno Costantino and her children, Keagan, Kearigan and Kaelin; his brother Christopher Cody Ison and his wife Ashley (Baker) Ison and their children, Camden and Asher; as well as numerous cousins and aunts and uncles.
