Edmond’s LibertyFest celebration returns for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first events starting on June 24.

The events include the Concert at the Park (6/24), LibertyFest Rodeo (6/25), KiteFest and Car Show (6/26), LibertyFest Road Rally (6/27), Parade and ParkFest (7/3), and Fireworks (7/4).

LibertyFest public relations director June Cartwright said the Taste of Edmond will not return until 2022.

There are a few changes to the events. The band at the Concert at the Park will consist of UCO faculty and students rather than the entire Edmond community. This change is because of COVID-19.

“The concert features a mixture of light classics, marches, and patriotic music,” Cartwright said. “The one-hour concert will include a range of traditional concert in the park music that will appeal to all. After the concert they will be serving free ice cream as long as the supply lasts.”

A group of military volunteers will help with the ParkFest event. Sanitizer will be at every bouncy house, and the health department rules will be followed when serving free watermelon.

“The event chairs are so happy that we have received such positive feedback on LibertyFest returning this year,” Cartwright said. “As the publicity person, I talk to a lot of citizens. They are ecstatic about the events occurring again.”

“We are so pleased that all the LibertyFest events are outdoors this year,” Cartwright said. “We have a committee assigned to safety & security and at each planning meeting we discuss any concerns in that area. Great attention is paid to COVID-19 concerns.”

The Edmond Church of Christ is opening its parking lot to LibertyFest fireworks viewers. The church is located at 801 S. Bryant directly across the street from the fireworks staging area.

Others can choose to watch the fireworks from parking lots located off Second Street.

Citizens are asked to not park near or block doors & emergency areas at the OU-Edmond Medical Center on 2nd. Street.
