Gov. Kevin Stitt announced new actions Monday intended to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Starting Thursday, all restaurants must keep tables six feet apart. Where this isn't possible, sanitized dividers may be used.

In addition, all bars and restaurants must close by 11 p.m. Curbside pickup and drive-through windows may continue to operate.

"We need to slow the spread of this virus," Stitt said. "Data shows that social distancing is harder to maintain as it gets later at night, especially in bars."

Jim Hopper, the president and CEO of the Oklahoma Restaurant Association, said the restaurant industry supports Stitt's announced actions.

"We're committed to doing our part as an industry while continuing to operate our businesses safely," Hopper said.

Beginning Tuesday, all state employees will be required to wear masks in common areas or when near others. Masks will be required for all visitors to state buildings.

Stitt said he wants to keep businesses safely open and wants students back in classrooms by January.

"Based on the data in our state, specifically the rise in hospitalizations, now is the time to do more," Stitt said. "We need to pull together. Oklahoma, I need your help. But more importantly, our doctors, our nurses, our healthcare professionals and hospitals need your help."
