Several people were displaced after a fire broke out Monday morning at a townhome complex in Edmond.

Authorities said the fire started overnight Monday at a townhome near Ayers Street and Bryant Avenue, which is near the University of Central Oklahoma.

Edmond fire officials said the flames started in a fireplace in the middle of the building before they spread to the attic.

The townhome had six units, and six people living there had to be evacuated. Residents in two of the units are without a place to stay.

"We know it started in the area of the fireplace, so this time of year is always a good reminder to have your fireplace checked and serviced to help avoid these incidents," Euel Davis, with the Edmond Fire Department said in a broadcast interview.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
