Edmond Police apprehended a man suspected of attempting to rob an ATM Thursday morning.

Brandan Gonzales, 27, was arrested in a wooded area west of Edmond Santa Fe High School, police said. He is being held on charges of breaking into an ATM, felony pursuit, obstruction and possession of a stolen vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

EPD responded to an alarm from the Oklahoma State Bank ATM at 2411 S. Kelly Ave. at around 6 a.m. The suspect was leaving as the officer arrived. The suspect attempted to escape in the white truck he was driving. He later ditched the truck and fled on foot. A second officer found Gonzales near the school.

Police said Gonzales is part of a group from Houston that travels the country burglarizing ATMs. This group typically steals a large truck and uses a chain to pull open the ATM doors. This time, the ground was soft enough that the ATM fell over, preventing the suspect from accessing the money inside.

Gonzales will be transferred to the Oklahoma County Jail. Police have no other suspects at this time.
