Edmond Police Department Strengthens Mental Wellness Support for their Staff

The Edmond Police Department is proud to announce the newest addition to its team, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Stephanie Williams. As part of the department's ongoing commitment to  wellness and resiliency, Ms. Williams will serve as the coordinator of the Department’s Wellness Unit.  The Wellness Unit includes Peer Support personnel and Chaplains dedicated to providing support for the men and women who serve the Edmond community, both sworn and civilian.

 

In the demanding and often challenging field of law enforcement, wellness and resilience of officers and professional staff are critical components of their overall effectiveness and job satisfaction. Recognizing this, the Edmond Police Department has taken proactive steps to enhance the support services available to their personnel.

 

Stephanie Williams, a licensed and experienced professional in the field of counseling, joins the department with a wealth of expertise in addressing the unique stressors and challenges faced by law enforcement professionals. Her role will encompass development, delivery, and assessment of services to improve mental, physical, spiritual, financial, and family health. 

 

Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger, expressed enthusiasm about the department's investment in wellness resources, stating, "We are dedicated to the well-being of Edmond’s public servants, and Stephanie's addition to our team reinforces our commitment to providing comprehensive support for our personnel. A resilient force is a more effective and compassionate force."

 

This strategic move by the Edmond Police Department aligns with the evidence-based recommendations in The President’s Task Force On 21st Century Policing and continuing best-practice research findings. By investing in the Edmond Police Department aims to foster a healthier, more resilient workforce that can better serve and protect the community.
