Edmond Police have a suspect in custody after responding to a burglary call Wednesday afternoon.

EPD said Roy Whittington, 25, is being held for 1st Degree Burglary, Public Intoxication and Obstructing an Officer.

The call was made around 4:30 p.m. EPD said a 14-year-old girl made the call, saying someone was breaking into her house.

She said she was home alone and hiding in the bathroom.

The responding officer spotted Whittington in an alley behind the house and gave chase on foot. A passerby witnessed what was happening and asked if he could help. The officer shouted, “get him,” after which the citizen used his truck to block Whittington’s escape. The citizen left the scene before the officer could thank him.

After being detained, Whittington told officers he was “dumb and drunk,” and the house was the one he grew up in. He said he does not know the current residents. He did not take anything from the residence.

Whittington’s right hand was injured, possibly from the broken window he crawled through to enter the residence. He received first aid at the scene before being transported to OU Health – Edmond. Once medically cleared, he was taken to the EPD Detention Center before being sent to the Oklahoma County Jail.
