The Edmond Chamber of Commerce’s gift card rebate program was such a success Saturday, the Chamber intends to bring it back this month.

Small Business Saturday, held this past weekend, encourages patronization of small, locally owned businesses to help them thrive. Due to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, these businesses need the help more than ever.

To encourage Edmond residents to participate and help local business, the Chamber instituted a gift card rebate program. Residents were able to submit receipts from Saturday from Chamber members or other locally owned businesses.

For every $100 spent at a business, patrons could receive a $10 gift card to the same business.

Sherry Jordan, CEO and President of the Edmond Chamber, said numerous people took advantage of the program.

“We had a great turnout of residents shopping small this year,” Jordan said. “It was a big initiative across the city of Edmond, and people stepped up to support our local businesses during these difficult times.”

More than $10,000 worth of purchases were submitted for the rebate program, all from local Edmond businesses.

This is the second time the Chamber has employed this program. The first occasion was in the spring when the pandemic had its strongest economic impact. The Chamber used the rebate program to help boost the local economy when people were perhaps still reluctant to get out and shop.

“Both of our rebate programs have been great successes,” Jordan said. “With the positive feedback we received, we will offer the program again in December to continue boosting our local economy.”

The Edmond Chamber and Edmond Economic Development Authority will be accepting receipts from restaurants and retailers dated December 5 through December 12 for a gift card rebate. Receipts must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, December 14 to be eligible. Shoppers can learn more and submit receipts at EdmondChamber.com/Rebate.
