This year has been one of the craziest in recent memory, and businesses have had to overcome a lot of adversity.

As it does every year, the Edmond Chamber of Commerce will give out annual awards to deserving businesses and individuals for their hard work throughout the past year.

The chamber is accepting nominations for small business of the year, philanthropic business of the year, young professional of the year and woman of the year.

The awards will be announced at the annual awards banquet, which is currently scheduled for March 25. The banquet is normally held in January, but the chamber pushed it back this year.

Ashley Neese, director of communications and marketing, said the chamber is seeking plenty of nominations.

“We really like to have a lot of different options, and we want people to submit as many as they can for whoever they feel like is deserving of this award. Not a whole lot different than years past, we’ll know a little more probably in January after the holidays about what the award banquet will actually look like next year."

Nominations are due Dec. 31.

To qualify for small business of the year, a business must have fewer than 50 employees, been in business for at least 3 years, be for-profit and have been a chamber member for at least 2 years. To qualify for philanthropic business of the year, a business must be a member of the chamber and have at least one Edmond location. Woman of the year must be a chamber member. Young Professional of the Year does not need to be a chamber member, but nominees must be between ages 21 and 40 and work or live within the Edmond school district boundaries.

Neese said the chamber is not yet ready to decide on the scope of the banquet.

“We’ll still have the awards as normal,” Neese said. “We’re really not sure yet on the actual event just because of everything going on. Likely, it will be just a reduced capacity, but again, it’s kind of early for us to make that call.”

The chamber will also issue awards for citizen of the year, volunteer of the year and the Chairman’s Award according to the chamber website. The chamber is not seeking nominations for these categories.
