Edmond’s new mayor and two new councilmembers took the oath of office and officially began their terms Monday evening.
Darrell Davis, who had been the Ward 3 Councilmember since November 2011, took office as the new mayor of Edmond. He replaced the outgoing Dan O’Neil, who did not seek reelection.
“It’s very humbling to be here,” Davis said. “Thirty-two years ago, we moved here. Never thought that I would become this involved in the community, but this community just embraced me and my family, and this is just the culmination of all the relationships I’ve built.”
Davis will serve a two-year term through 2023.
Christin Mugg took Davis’ spot on the council representing Ward 3. Stacie Peterson took office representing Ward 4. They are beginning four-year terms, running through May 2025. This is the first public office for both.
“I’m just overwhelmed,” Peterson said. “I’m overwhelmed. I’m so blessed to be given this opportunity. I’m excited about this opportunity. It’s a lot, but I’m just so excited and overwhelmed and just humbled, humbled at this position.”
The trio join Ward 1 representative David Chapman and Ward 2 representative Josh Moore on the council.
“I’m most looking forward to working with the fellow councilmembers, the mayor and the city employees,” Mugg said. “Just advocating for residents and doing a really good job.”
The next city council election will be held in 2023. Mayor, Ward 1 and Ward 2 will be on the ballot.
