A recount of the Edmond Ward 3 race did not change the outcome.
Christin Mugg was confirmed as the winner of the city council seat Wednesday after a two-day recount of the votes requested by opponent Sheryl Janis.
Mugg announced her reconfirmed victory on her official candidate Facebook page.
“I am proud of the outstanding State of Oklahoma election employees, volunteers, procedures, and processes,” Mugg wrote. “After a two-day hand recount of the Edmond City Council Ward 3 election, the outcome was confirmed. I am so looking forward to being sworn in as Councilwoman on May 3, 2021 and serving the residents of Edmond.”
Following the recount, Mugg received 5,329 votes to Janis’ 5,262. The final tally was nearly identical to the election night results. Mugg received an additional vote on recount.
The recount began late Tuesday morning at the Oklahoma County Election Board. Each candidate had designated watchers to oversee the count. Mugg announced her victory at 6:01 Wednesday evening.
