Sixteen boys’ tennis teams from across Class 6A gathered at the Edmond Tennis Center Wednesday as Edmond North hosted the Edmond North Varsity Tournament.

The event was organized by Huskies’ head coach Duncan Fugitt, whose Blue team successfully won the tournament with 57 total points. Edmond Memorial took home second place after finishing with 51 points and Edmond Santa Fe’s 25 points was good for ninth place.

Edmond North had two different teams participate which each placed in the final top five. Their base varsity team was split up into a Blue team and a White team, with the Blue team winning every bracket except one.

Wednesday’s tournament win marks the fourth-straight for the Huskies, making them undefeated in the month of April.

John Paul Huston won the No. 1 Singles tourney for Edmond North Blue by defeating opponents from Lawton, Booker T. Washington, Yukon and finally, Cascia Hall’s Ben Kendrick in the championship match. He won the final over Kendrick by a score of 6-3, 6-3.

The Huskies also won both doubles events to secure the tournament victory. Jack Franklin and Dylan Rainwater teamed up to take the No. 1 Doubles bracket over Bishop Kelley, 6-1, 6-3. The No. 2 Doubles event was won by Noah Gou and Levi Solomon, who defeated Edmond Memorial’s Carson Ogilbee and Dominik Morrison in the final.

Memorial spoiled the Huskies’ tournament sweep after Eli Lemley won the No. 2 Singles tourney for the Bulldogs, giving up just two points throughout the entire tournament.

Edmond Santa Fe’s best result Wednesday was a sixth-place finish in the No. 1 Doubles. Caleb Cumpton and Kevin Nguyen won their first round matchup over Norman but fell in the second round to Edmond North White. From there, the duo won one game in the consolation bracket to place sixth.

With less than two weeks until 6A regionals get underway, multiple local schools will have a shot at competing for a state title come May 9.
