The Edmond North and Edmond Santa Fe girls’ soccer teams clashed for the first time this season with the Huskies coming out on top in Tuesday’s iteration of Edlam soccer.

Coach Ike Emegano’s squad won by a final score of 4-0 to notch their fifth-consecutive victory. They improve to 8-1 on the season with their only loss coming to another Edlam rival, Edmond Memorial, via penalty shootout.

Edmond Santa Fe now holds a 6-4 record this season, having lost their last two contests.

North forward Rylee McLanahan got the action started early Tuesday evening with a goal in the fifth minute from the top of the Santa Fe penalty box. McLanahan controlled the ball and took a few dribbles toward center field before knocking a left-footed strike into the top left corner of the Wolves’ net.

The Huskies scored again just seven minutes later in the twelfth minute after junior Julia McBride curved a corner kick into the front of the net, where it caught a Santa Fe defender on the shoulder and careened into the net for a forced own-goal.

Despite what the final score might suggest, Edmond Santa Fe did a solid job of balancing time of possession and putting pressure on the North defense. The Wolves found plenty of goal opportunities but just couldn’t seem to finish. They ended with six shots on goal with five of those saved by Huskies’ keeper Leslie Miller.

McLanahan got the Huskies on the board once again right before the half. The sophomore scored her second goal of the evening off of a Jordan Heathcock thru ball that set her up perfectly to connect on a left-footed boot, putting Edmond North up, 3-0, entering halftime.

McLanahan is carving out an impressive soccer career in just her second high school season and was even named to the 2024 FIFA Under 17 United States Women’s World Cup team earlier this year.

The two teams went back and forth for the next 25 minutes of action with Edmond Santa Fe still unable to find the back of the net despite a handful of chances. Edmond North capped off the night with another Julia McBride score in the 58th minute, assisted by Ady Bechtel.

The Huskies held on to win 4-0 and earn their first Edlam victory of the year. They’ve now won their last five games in-a-row while only giving up one goal during that span. They’ll play their final game of the regular season on Friday, April 19, versus Lawton (2-11).

With the loss, Edmond Santa Fe drops to third in the Class 6A-1 district standings at 3-2 in district play. They’ll look to end the regular season on a high note when they welcome Capitol Hill (1-7) to town Thursday, April 18.
