The Central Oklahoma men’s golf team capped off their regular season Tuesday with a first-place finish at the Showdown at Shangri-La.

Hosted at Shangri-La Golf Club eight miles southwest of Grove, Oklahoma, at Monkey Island, the Showdown featured 18 schools from across the country competing for one last victory before the start of postseason conference championships. The two-day event lasted from April 1-2.

Tuesday’s win marks three-straight for the Bronchos to end the regular reason.

UCO finished with a team score of 849 after three rounds, just barely edging out second-place Harding University by one point. Junior Bennett Baldwin had the best performance for the Bronchos and for the entire event, shooting a 54-hole 202 (65-68-69) for the top score out of any individual golfer. He secured the individual title for his second career tournament win.

Baldwin’s round one score of 65 tied for the second-best round of the tournament, bested only by Rogers State’s Thomas Barnes-Grimes, who shot a 64 in round two.

Junior and former Edmond North Husky Jordan Wilson followed behind Baldwin with a final score of 211 (68-72-71), which was good for sixth place overall. Freshman Baylor Bostick notched his third top 20 finish of his young career by posting a 54-hole 217 (73-73-71), tying for 15th overall.

Dylan Henderson was UCO’s fourth-place finisher after shooting 221 (76-70-75) by day two. He tied for 28th with seven other golfers. Finally, Kyle Hickey brought up the rear for the Bronchos with a T-48 finish when all was said and done, at 225 (75-76-74).

UCO concludes the regular season on a high note before battling for a conference championship later this month. Coach Derrick Thompson’s group will spend the next week-and-a-half prepping for the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championships in Kansas City, April 15-17.
