Central Oklahoma men's basketball suffered another transfer portal departure following the end of the 2023-2024 season.

After starting guard Danquez Dawsey declared his entry into the portal one day earlier, Bronchos’ top scorer Jaden Wells announced Friday that he would be entering the transfer portal after spending the last four seasons in Edmond. The junior has one year of eligibility remaining.

Wells’ announcement came via a Twitter post, where he gave thanks to everyone who supported him during his four years at UCO: “First off, I would like to thank God for allowing me to still play the game I've always loved because without Him I am nothing. Next I would like to say thank you to all my coaches, teammates, staff and managers at UCO. Thank you all for everything you all have done for me and the endless love and support on and off the court over the years.”

“This is by far the hardest decision I have had to make, but after talking to my family, it is a decision that is best for me and my future. With that being said, I will officially be entering the transfer portal as a Grad transfer with 1 year left of eligibility.”

A 6-foot-1, 160-pound guard from Hurst, Texas, Wells came to UCO in 2020 out of L.D. Bell High School and immediately made an impact as a freshman. He played in all 24 games his first season and started 19 of those, averaging 11.1 points per game.

Wells has served as the Bronchos’ leading scorer the last two seasons at 16.5 and 21.5 points per game, respectively, while making his mark with his elite three-point shooting. He broke the UCO school record for career threes made this season (308) and finished his time in Edmond with a near 40% clip from behind the arc.

The Bronchos’ star has amassed numerous awards during his four years with the program. He was named to the Division II All-Central Region first team the last two seasons and is a three-time All-MIAA honoree.

So far, Wells has been contacted by a number of Division I and Division II programs across the country since putting his name in the portal. Most notably, the in-state Oklahoma Sooners as well as the University of North Texas, a 40-minute drive from his hometown of Hurst, Texas.
