With March coming to a close, we officially wrap up the first month of the 2023-2024 high school baseball season in Edmond.

All six Edmond-area varsity squads saw their first action of the spring season over the course of the month. Some teams came out of the gate swinging, while others struggled to find their rhythm early on. Today, we’ll recap the first month for all local ball clubs and see where each team stands heading into the month of April.

Edmond North

First-year head coach Matt Allen has his Huskies on a roll to start the season. At 11-1 through 12 games so far, Edmond North sits at No. 2 in District 6A-1 standings behind only Yukon, and have played dominant baseball as of late.

Six of the Huskies 11 wins thus far have been in shutout fashion. Most recently, the team shut out Putnam City in both double-header matchups, 22-0 in the first game, and 11-0 in the latter game. North also went undefeated at the Edmond Spring Break Festival last week.

Edmond Memorial

After dropping their first two games to start the spring season, coach JP Holman and the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs have yet to lose a game since, sitting at 10-2 overall after one month.

Memorial’s season opening losses came at the hands of Rockwall (TX) High School and Rockwall Heath (TX) High School. Since then, they pulled out series wins over Southmoore, Lawton Eisenhower and Putnam City North, with one of those wins over PC North coming in a 15-0 shutout. The Bulldogs are currently first in the District 6A-2 standings.

Oklahoma Christian School

Coach Romus Cezar’s Saints currently own a record of 7-4 after their most recent series sweep over Blackwell. OCS had a slew of games canceled after some of the Edmond Spring Break Festival was rained out a week ago, then went on to lose three-straight after starting the season 5-1.

Two of the team’s four losses, however, have come by teams of higher classes (Norman in 6A, Midwest City in 5A) but the Saints also lost to Class B Calumet, 7-5. OCS currently sits at No. 3 in the District 3A-4 standing with only one loss in district play.

Edmond Santa Fe

Wolves’ head coach Kris Webb has guided the team to an average 8-6 record after one month of play with a handful of series wins already. Webb is another first-year coach in Edmond baseball this season and has adjusted well to the 6A competition after coming from Class B Vici High School.

Santa Fe pulled off series sweeps over both Putnam City West and fellow Edmond rival Deer Creek. They’re No. 3 in the District 6A-1 standings with a district record of 4-2.

Deer Creek

The third local squad sporting a brand new head coach, Deer Creek sits below .500 after one month of action at 6-8 overall. Coach Andew McGuire has led the Antlers to one series victory over Putnam City West but has lost five of their last six contests.

The Antlers find themselves at fifth in the District 6A-1 standings heading into Thursday’s Broken Arrow Festival at Broken Arrow High School.

Oklahoma Christian Academy

The OCA Eagles have pulled off a number of wins over higher class schools through the first month of play, including Blackwell (3A), Luther (3A) and Christian Heritage Academy (2A). Most recently, OCA narrowly dropped a road matchup against Destiny Christian School in Del City, 9-8.

Coach Chance Stevens has the team sitting at 4-3 thus far with a tournament coming up at Mulhall-Orlando High School.
