Edmond Memorial baseball suffered a home loss to Carl Albert on Thursday, falling 5-3 to the Class 5A Titans.

The Bulldogs faced their first non-Class 6A school of the season and came up short as the regular season winds to a close. Thursday’s loss snaps a two-game win streak for Memorial.

Carl Albert came out of the gate swinging in the first inning with three base hits and a two-RBI home run from Easton Perkins, giving the visitors an early 3-0 advantage. Memorial would respond with three scores of their own in the third inning, tying it up at three apiece.

It was a rough day for Memorial pitcher Noah Humphreys. Despite striking out five batters in four innings, the right-handed senior gave up five hits, three walks and a home run before subbing out in the top of the fourth.

The two teams went back and forth through the fourth and fifth innings with no score, until Carl Albert ran in two in the sixth thanks to RBI’s from Mister Randle and Samuel Gonzalez. New pitcher Stratton White gave up four hits and walked two batters in the inning.

Memorial got nothing in the sixth and failed to respond during their final at-bats in the seventh, losing by a final score of 5-3 to the red-hot Titans, who have now won 15 contests in-a-row dating back to April 5.

Edmond Memorial becomes 21-9 on the season after the home loss. With regional tournaments coming up in just under a week, Edmond Memorial is secured into the No. 2 spot in District 6A-2 at 12-2 in district play. They’ll host their own regional starting Wednesday, May 1.

Until then, the team still has two more regular season games to go. They’ll host Blue Valley North (Kan.) High School on Friday then end the season at Enid on Monday, April 29.
