Coach Chris Waugh and the Edmond North boys’ soccer team venture out of state this week to compete in the annual Smoky Mountain Cup in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

The round robin-style event will feature 54 varsity and JV squads from schools hailing from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. Edmond North will be the sole Oklahoma team to participate.

Teams will play starting Thursday and ending on Saturday, April 4-6.

The Huskies will face off first against Southeast Whitfield (GA) High School at 6 P.M. on Thursday. At 9-4 so far this season in Georgia’s Class 4A, Southeast Whitfield has won their last nine contests after starting the season 0-4, giving North the opportunity to play spoiler.

On day two, the Huskies play Greenville (Tenn.) High School at 6 P.M. before ending the tournament facing The Westminster Schools (GA) the next morning on day three.

Edmond North currently holds an overall record of 4-2 after six games to start the year. Their four wins came over Deer Creek, Bishop McGuinness, Putnam City West and Mustang with the Huskies winning all four by a single goal. They suffered losses to Lawton MacArthur and ‘Edlam’ rival Edmond Memorial, also falling in each by one score.

The Huskies hope to fair well against their first out-of-state opponents this season when they get the tournament started at 6 P.M. Thursday inside Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg.
