Member schools will gather at the OKC Tennis Center for conference supremacy
The Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference tennis tournament commences this Saturday, April 13, and four Edmond-area schools are set to compete against their conference rivals.
Twelve members of the COAC including local schools Edmond Memorial, Edmond North, Edmond Santa Fe and Deer Creek will gather at the OKC Tennis Center as we begin to wind down the 2024 high school tennis season.
Similar to most regular season tennis tournaments, Saturday’s event will feature four brackets for four different competitions. Each team will have an athlete participate in the No. 1 Singles and the No. 2 Singles brackets, then a pair of duos for the No. 1 Doubles and No. 2 Doubles competitions.
The tournament will include both boys’ and girls’ brackets.
Both Edmond North’s boys’ and girls’ teams come into the conference tourney as two of the top teams in Class 6A. The Huskies’ boys are winners of their last three tournaments with the most recent victory coming at the Broken Arrow Tournament on Tuesday (April 9).
Edmond Memorial tennis has seen recent success as well. Coach Leslie Futrell’s Bulldog girls’ team picked up wins in both singles brackets of the Bixby Spartan Classic Girls Tournament, as well as third place in the No. 1 Doubles.
Both the Memorial boys and girls also took home first place at their own Edmond Memorial Bulldog Invitational on April 6.
Edmond Santa Fe and Deer Creek have seen less success than that of their cross-city rivals but have remained competitive throughout the season. Most recently, the Santa Fe boys secured a third-place and three seventh-place finishes at the aforementioned Bulldog Invitational, and the Deer Creek girls won three seventh-place games at the Bixby Spartan Classic.
All eight local squads will break out the rackets Saturday morning as the COAC Tourney kicks off at 8 A.M. at the OKC Tennis Center.
